Summary
After he killed Harry Potter, Voldemort unleashed a poisonous fog over the world, almost wiping out the entire population and driving the survivors underground. Seven years later, now established at Hogwarts, his Empire is growing stronger and deadlier every year. Death Eaters roam the deserted cities to capture surviving mudbloods and muggles, throwing them into the Empire’s wandless and violent tournament called Numberland. To ensure the players' performance is entertaining to the Purebloods loyal to the dark side, they are ruthlessly trained and kept in the castle.
When Hermione is captured and assigned to Draco’s training, she notices that he’s now paired with a dog that never leaves his side. His posture is rigid, cold and military, masking a brokenness that matches her own. She soon realizes that her desire to win isn’t stronger than her desire to burn the Empire to the ground. And the civil war brewing outside the borders might just help do that.

There is only one thing that Piko the pup loves more than treats and walks to the park...
It's when Piko and her human spend time with the lovely stranger that gives Piko pats and belly rubs and endless snugglies.
Sure, the stranger sometimes jabs pointy stuff into Piko's back (which feels very ouchie), or presses strange objects to Piko's tummy. But Piko knows it must be important and the stranger always apologises with yummy treats when they're done.
Plus... he always makes Piko's human very happy, so Piko hopes they'll see the stranger again for a little while.

Malfoy didn’t need to work, he had enough money for a hundred lifetimes over, but he hadn’t wanted to sit idle. He and Blaise had grown their business to something impressive and no longer brewed their own potions, but apparently, that hadn’t stopped Malfoy from experimenting himself. Hermione was probably the only person who would find something like that attractive, but gods she did. That insatiable strive for knowledge was something they shared, and it made her treacherous heart hope that he might feel something for her too. She couldn’t quite believe she felt so strongly for the man that she’d spent the day writing about, but times had changed, and so had she.

Hermione shrugged and dropped to her knees when they reached the end of the aisle; the dog came straight to her.
“I don’t know”—she stroked her hands through the dog’s white and brown fur— “but he’s a good boy. Aren’t you? Yes you are.”
“Merlin, Granger, if i’d known all I had to do to get you on your knees was bring my dog to work, I would have brought him in years ago.”
