I had this story in my head for a few years and has been developing it over time. I have finally gotten down to business to writing it. Please bear in mind that I am not a native English speaker, thus there might be some mistakes in there. I also edit and beta this whole thing alone, with only some input from my friend who provided a few minor characters to the story and is the main reason I started writing it down. To be perfectly honest, House had expected harassment. So when he turned around he barely had time to process the presence of the person in front of him before a full stack of money was slammed onto his desk.
The room went quiet.
“I’ll give you five grand if you can be your usual self with my friend,” the woman said. “He just got into a car accident. He doesn’t need medical acronyms I can barely understand. He needs someone who actually tells him what’s wrong with him."
She took a ragged breath. Her eyes were red. She looked like she's been crying.
“I’ll pay you more if this isn’t enough.”
House glanced at the money. Then at her.
“So,” he said slowly, “you’re essentially paying me to be a straightforward asshole to your friend?”
“Yes.”
____And that was how Gregory House, Head of the Department of Diagnostic Medicine, first met Belle—an enhanced human with physical abnormalities too obvious to ignore.
The rest didn’t go the way either of them expected.
