Everything has its time, and everything dies. The Doctor knows that better than anyone. For nine hundred years, he's wandered the universe, planet to planet, star to star, galaxy to galaxy, and more often than not, he leaves havoc in his wake. Friend after friend, companion after companion, pain and suffering follow in his footsteps, no matter how hard he tries to prevent it. After so long, regardless of who he travels with and for how long they stick around, he's just resigned himself to being alone. Just a madman and his box.
Then he meets Rose Tyler, and then Jack Harkness, and then, suddenly, the Doctor can almost hope that things are going to change. That maybe, just maybe, he can have a family again, as strange as it is.
That's the moment everything goes wrong again. That's the moment everything falls back apart.
But the Bad Wolf isn't going to let that happen. Just this once, everyone is going to live.
They're the stuff of legend, after all.
