Steph was having a fantastic night, her finals were done and over with and a girl from her chem lab had invited her to what ended up being an awesome party.
More accurately, Steph had been having a fantastic night until she decided she it was too hot inside at the party and she was ready to go curl up in her dorm for the night so she wouldn't be too tired to go meet Tim for their celebratory brunch tomorrow. She hadn't realized until partway through the walk back that she'd forgotten her coat and she was suddenly freezing.
That wouldn't have been such a big deal with how close she was to her dorm, except once she'd gotten there she learned that along with her coat her wallet and keys were missing, meaning that she couldn't get into the building.
Luckily, before anything could get too dire she saw that the campus convenience store still had its lights on so probably wasn't shutting down for the break just yet.

With no reason to try to go back, the siblings decide to make a new home. Unfortunately, they do not have the plot armor they once had in Amity Park, so anyone with any sense can tell something ain't quite right with them. Even in human form, Danny reads as other, Jazz seems too odd to be only-human raised, and Dan forgot what being human even means.
Luckily, this new dimension is used to aliens crashlanding and winging their stay. The lovely people of Smallville in particular are always willing to lend a helping help to their unearthly guests.
