Bland.
Hank thought it had a stick up its ass before, but this is something else. Every morning it’ll greet him in that annoying synthetic lilt, all placid smiles and canned platitudes. It’s banned from the field, too, just so that Hank never gets a break from its scrawny silhouette in his periphery. Haunting the precinct like a plastic specter. Gone are the little smiles, the attitude he thought he’d caught glimpses of. No more weird-ass small talk. Figures it’d drop the human act now that the gig is up.
Still, it creeps him out. The way it’ll look at him sometimes — wide brown eyes with nobody in the driver’s seat. He’s pretty sure it used to blink.
(The android revolution falls to a bullet. Hank returns to work to a familiar face.)

Summary
No matter how awful it is, there’s something that keeps Hank from quitting. He has never heard of a vampire hunter that left the profession of their own accord. Maybe they’re all addicted to the adrenaline. Maybe they’re all violent psychos and this is the only way to express those urges without getting arrested. That actually seems pretty likely. Every single person Hank has worked with in the past three years has been royally fucked up and awful to be around, himself included. They all hate it, and they all keep coming back to it, over and over until the day they die. It makes for a weird but effective ecosystem, and the ones that don’t die right away—or haven’t yet—have enough skill and luck combined to actually put a dent in the vampire population that’s been steadily growing since Hank was a kid.
But apparently, they’re just not enough. Gotta fight fire with fire—send one of their own secret vamps out, and stick it under Hank’s supervision, whether he likes it or not. He looks at the overly-agreeable freak of nature next to him and resists every survival instinct that’s kept him alive for so long not to stab him through the heart right now.

‘Connor,’ a voice floats in the back of his mind. Connor winces, not used to the feeling. No one has ever reached out to him like this before. ‘Where are you?’ It’s Markus. He’s one of Connor’s classmates and fellow trainee. No doubt he is with Kara, both searching for him.
It hasn’t been that long since the group split up, right? Connor glances at a clock on the wall, confirming it. He frowns. “I think I have to go,” he says.
“So soon?” Hank asks. The worry in his voice makes his blue eyes look darker.
Connor bows his head. “Sorry. I’ll see you later.” He excuses himself before the others can start protesting. As he makes his way through the crowd, Connor mentally replies to Markus. ‘On my way.’
Or, Connor is an angel who meets a human who makes him curious.
