Bdubs can’t see much of his face, but what he can see, makes his heart flutter.
“Sorry.” the man says, grabbing the ball, a Canadian accent in his voice.
“It’s g-uh, fine…uh…you guys are really good.” Bdubs says, cheeks tuning a little pink.
“Uh, thanks.” the man says, “I’ll tell Joel to try and not hit you again.” he says, winking at Bdubs with mismatched eyes before walking down the bleachers, soccer ball in hand.

"Yeah. Just tired."
Etho isn't entirely lying, he can tell.
Maybe he's still sensitive about the incident. He wishes Etho would just let go of his own feelings of guilt for it. He’s not the reason Bdubs is blind. He doesn't want Etho to react this way every time he mentions his sight.
“Here, why don’t you lay down for a moment?” Bdubs pats the bed on his left, scooting over. Etho sits, and the bed creaks with his weight before evening out.

Summary
The forest ranger from the southern forest tribes gets attacked. He wakes up to his blood spilled onto the snow and quickly decides he can’t go home.
He runs away from his family village and goes on a trip around the northern kingdoms, realizing what happened to him and what he has become as well as learning more of the outside world.
Will he ever go back home?or
Bdubs gets turned into a vampire and goes on a self imposed self discovery exile journey.
And for the record, he knows nothing of the outside world or being a vampire.

"You're really into this guy, huh?" Cleo says as Bdubs settles into his seat at the table. Etho's getting the hang of knitting enough that Bdubs finally feels safe to knit too, while he sits beside him ready to help if needed. He only brings idiot-proof stuff to work, anyway, since he's always getting interrupted.
"Excuse me?" Bdubs asks. He aims for teasing, but it comes out a little too raw for that. She must be joking, but god, shouldn't Cleo know better as his best friend?
"Not like that—" they say quickly. "I know you're aromantic and stuff, I mean. Just, like, that you like him a lot, right? You've got a friend-crush.".

One day, on a foraging trip at the edge of the forest, Bdubs noticed something. A movement amidst the trees, a shift in the air, the faint scent of something that didn’t belong. Like cheap cologne and redstone dust.
And he let it be. Because this person was not threatening his home, Bdubs did his foraging and left him alone. But, strangely, he found him there the next day too, sitting at the base of a tree and tracing patterns into the dirt. The day after, the strange man hadn’t moved, acting like that of a trapped animal the way he paced back and forth, never doing much, always radiating…distress.
Bdubs didn’t care. He knew these people all moved on eventually.
