There are some mysteries the galaxy holds that no one is meant to know. Everyday something, somewhere comes to destroying something held dear. One such secret is Subject Rouge, a murderous psionic test subject awoken from a coma and driven insane. Kamui, the galaxy's most feared and hated captain of Harusame's Seventh Division, knows her as Kagura. Separated for ten long years and reunited under violent circumstances, he accidentally discovers she was part of a secret Tendoshu project shut down and buried. Their reunion is the axis of an intergalactic conspiracy. The Tendoshu want their failure cleaned up. Harusame wants to stay out of their way. Kamui wants answers: what they did to her, why she went mad, whether the damage can be undone. The Seventh walks out with Kagura anyway, and the galaxy gains a new fault line.
Every confrontation in space and Earth turns into a battlefield. Kamui and Kagura are forced to confront what’s left between them. Is there anything to repair—or will trying to save her mean Kamui has to confront his own darkest truths and turning their fragmented half-truce into something forbidden and unexpected?
