He always had taste, sure, but tonight his usual relaxed bearing had shifted into a more elevated comportment. Standing up, he had clinked his knife on the glass to cut through the chatter and emphasize the significance of his upcoming announcement, which would never have happened under normal circumstances. He thinks about the ‘ritual’, how disturbing it felt, how heavy the words weighted in his mouth. He thinks of the taste of his own blood and the uneasy feeling of all those eyes on him that he wanted to escape but didn’t dare. He remembers Luca’s presence in his peripheral vision and at the back of his mind. The cut on his lower lip stings a little and he reflexively runs his tongue over it.
Triggered by the movement, Luca's sharp gaze fixates on the cut. As if mesmerized, he raises his hand to Enzo's face, lifting his chin slightly, and strokes the cut with his thumb. For a moment, as Enzo holds his breath, Luca looks like he's about to say something but then his eyes shift to Enzo's, and the spell is broken.

Ten poněkud nedomyšlený plán, že by se Vito jednou usadil, se neměl kdy stát. A Vito si ani nemyslel, že by to nějak vadilo, vzhledem k tomu, že měl plné ruce práce sám se sebou.
Našel kompromis. Přátelský pokec s někým, kdo nebyl Joe, příjemné povyražení s někým, kdo nebyl lehká holka, vztah bez závazků. Perfektní pro někoho s jeho povoláním. A on stejně neměl nic víc, co by tomu chlapovi ještě nabídl. Nebo nabídnout chtěl.
Prostě si trochu užijí a pak si půjdou každý svou cestou.
Plány Vitovi nikdy moc nevycházely.
