It was Daniel who noticed first.
Well, it was Daniel who brought it up first. Merritt, who made a living out of studying people and analyzing emotions, probably noticed. He was just decent enough to keep it to himself. Daniel was not.
The younger Horsemen had gone out to brunch together, leaving Daniel, Merritt, Jack, and Lula alone in the house. The four of them were sitting around one table, eating what might have been called breakfast, although it ranged from bacon and toast to leftover pizza. Daniel picked at a breakfast burrito, before finally speaking.

Following the aftermath of Dylan Shrike getting caught and sent to a Russian Supermax the Horsemen disbands and Lula May breaks up with him, leaving a now twenty-two-year-old Jack Wilder to face the world alone once more. Washed up from going corporate and being a cheap party trick the once renowned magician settles in Portland, Oregon, where he happens to drown his sorrows at a bar owned by a team of world class thieves.
Set for new adventures, Jack decides to cut his losses and try his hand at a different kind of magic. A kind of magic even J. Daniel Atlas couldn't see coming.
Or: I take creative liberties about what Jack Wilder was up to during the 10 year time skip between NYSM 2 & 3 and pretend like it aligns with Leverage canon.
