The silence that came right after his question was what gave it away. The fact that he’s going to hate this so called « solution » Alana found.
She looked away. For once, it was not Will avoiding eye contact.
“– Spill it. He finally said, a light annoyed tone in his voice.

____Will isn't one to give up easily, especially since he had dealt with failure three years prior when he was forced to dropped out because of his inflaming brain.

Hannibal found himself in a rather rare position. He doesn’t find himself rare positions, ever. Hannibal was the kind of man who sits by his desk for hours, silently planning and visualising his whole life in his head; a man who had decided how his life should run, down to the single utmost seemingly insignificant detail before he even graduated high school.
The same man now found himself struggling to uphold his unbothered and calculated composure, a few strands of hair loose from its usual slicked back restraints. He stared at the rejection letter on his iPad, and rubbed his eyes with a tired groan. He was clearly qualified enough for The New York Times. His work was otherworldly, anyone who has ever taught or studied in the same college as Hannibal Lecter would swear by it.

Together in silence, the boys listen to the echoing sound of the night-time swamp. Will's fingers trace red swirls on the uneven grain of the porch.
"Maybe we should clean up," he mutters. Then he starts, struck; and those tired, mischievous eyes turn now to Hannibal, glittering with some fresh new idea, same way they'd glittered when he'd come panting into Hannibal's mouth, pulled him up by the collar of his shirt and grazed his earlobe with his teeth as he'd whispered hey, let's kill Daddy.
"Hey," he starts, same as way-way-way back then, "hey. Hannibal, Han, let's take a dip in the river."
The river. Back behind the Graham's fragile shack there is a river. It is too small for fishing, too shallow to swim in, just deep enough for a bath, just clear enough to drink. Hannibal would not call it a river, but then again, it is not his to call. Will's river, he thinks, and smiles.
