That's what she has always doing, running from everything and everyone. She doesn't need anyone at all, she already has Evan, Pandora, Dorcas, Barty and Regulus. That's more than what she deserves, or at least that's what she thinks. And for that same reason she's never going to let herself love. She would just kill herself if she wasn't a coward.
Marlene McKinnon is a chaos. She's a mess. She has no idea what she wants to do after graduating. It's like everyone around her has a say in her life except for her, and she hates that. Marlene is brave, but she's scared. Scared of the war, of not doing enough, of failure. She'll graduate and do whatever the fuck she wants and no one's going to stop her or change her mind. Especially her mother.
