Mind numbed and soul withering from the fourth iteration of the same argument over the budget proposal, Dan Feng silently unzips his work bag to peek in, the case safely obscured from the Elders’ sight by the edge of the table. At the brightening light, Yingxing looks up with a smile and gives Dan Feng a little wave, notebook on his lap. Opposite him, Ren is meditating, tail wrapped around himself.
Dan Feng presses his lips into a firm line to suppress the smile trying to form.
