Lee Scoresby is an escaped convict. Someone else helped him escape, but those kind of excuses don't wash well with the Magisterium. That means that he's on the run, looking like he's just been left for dead, and to really top it off, he is still looking for Stanislaus Grumman.
Yes, that search indirectly landed him in prison the last time, but he is nothing if not determined.
Jopari is the one that Lee crashes into, looking for sanctuary from a story built on lies. Both of them can sense a convict in the other, but neither of them really want to say anything. Especially not since the Magisterium has just come storming through the door, looking for a convict.
Can you trust a stranger? Are there benefits to keeping a secret?

This is a fanfiction rewrite of the last two episodes of HDM season 2. Lee Scoresby and John Parry get to reunite much earlier with Lyra and Will, allowing them to spend more time together before everything falls apart.
...
The alethiometer tells Lyra where to find Will's father... And it tells her that he's traveling with Lee Scoresby.
With this information, the witches are able to locate and bring them together immediately. Lee and Lyra catch up on what they both had missed apart from each other. Will and John have a falling out over John's disappearance, and the task Will has ahead of him as the knife bearer. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, the Magisterium and Marisa Coulter aren't far behind on their trail. They know Lyra's second name, and now they will do everything in their power to be the first to find her. -

(Takes place during s2e6, "Malice," though obviously with some creative license. Also riffs on that great Scoresby/Coulter scene, which inspired some headcanons about Lee's past and childhood which are alluded to here. Also full of my own headcanons about how sexytimes work when daemons are involved. I haven't read the books in like 15 years so don't yell at me if I missed something, this is very much Show Fic and not Book Fic.)
