Somehow that thought is what makes this all feel real and he lets out a sob, gripping Robby’s palm with everything in him, it’s impossible not to notice how still he is, how he isn’t crying or making pained noises anymore and his breathing is weak and rapid. He can’t lose him. They had fought so hard to get to where they are and the thought of losing it like this, after wasting so much time, is unimaginable
“Love you” Robby murmurs and for just a second his eyes flutter open “my sunshine” he whispers wetly, fingers twitching in his as the tiniest smile graces his lips, green eyes shiny with tears before falling closed.

"Just twelve more minutes," Carmen murmured to herself, stifling a yawn. She glanced at the clock on the wall of the emergency room, its digital face blinking a cold, unforgiving 2:48 AM. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting stark shadows across the linoleum floor. She rubbed her eyes, trying to keep the fatigue at bay. Another long shift at the hospital was almost over.
A sudden rustle of footsteps drew Carmen's attention to the doorway. A young nurse, her eyes wide with concern, approached with a tentative step. "Carmen," she began, her voice a soft hush, "we've got a teenage boy in the waiting room. He's in a pretty bad shape."
With a sense of dread growing in her stomach, she took the clipboard and headed for the door. As it swung open, the chilly night air rushed in, a stark contrast to the sterile warmth of the hospital. The nurse's words echoed in her mind as she stepped into the dimly lit room. Her eyes searched the sea of faces, but they all looked like a blur. That was until she saw him. Robby Keene. The son of her boyfriend. The fear in his eyes was palpable, a stark contrast to the stoic mask he usually wore.
