When Dick saw the last mortar round, it didn’t happen in slow motion. No, it was instantaneous, it was over and done with. It had been so close that Dick didn’t even register he’d gotten knocked to the floor. He only saw Eugene turn around and start running towards him.
He also saw the tree that had gotten splintered start to descend downwards, right to where Gene was standing. Now that happened in slow motion.
