"I'm very drunk, de Rolo," Vax replied, his lips curving into a lopsided smile that revealed a rarely-seen dimple. "Might massacre those fancy noble toes of yours."
Percy's lips quirked into that soft, aristocratic smile that never quite reached his eyes. "I'll take my chances. If Scanlan managed to get Pike to marry him after years of terrible flirtation, I'm sure you can make it through one dance."
Weddings are incredibly romantic. Maybe that's why they finally get their shit together.

"Is that right, Freddie?" The familiar voice sliced through the room like a dagger. Vax stood in the doorway, shadow-thin, cheekbones sharp as blades beneath his pallid skin. No one had noticed him slipping in. "And what exactly did you see?"

There's a really strange disco in the city, where tons of people have gone missing. There are specific party nights where at least one person who goes in never goes out, yet no one stops going. It appeared out of nowhere, yet everyone seems to remember it being there years ago, and everyone has been there at least once. The owners are strangely never targeted by the authorities, nor is the disco. It's like they're invisible to them, like they don't exist.
Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia feel like they're about to go mad. It's like they have all the information they need, but a piece is missing. And the only way of getting that last piece is to go inside.

"Ten minutes." Vax tapped his wristwatch, the leather band worn thin at the buckle.
"Fuck really?" Percy's eyes widened behind smudged lenses, a rare curse from his usually measured mouth.
"Sorry sunshine." Vax's smile was crooked, revealing the chipped incisor from last year's hockey incident. There was a reason Vax avoided team sports.
"How did I ever make it to a race before I had you?" Percy asked as he unfolded his tall frame and stood next to Vax, his white hair catching the golden afternoon light streaming through dusty library windows.
"It's a mystery. Now get your shoes on and go warm up or the whole school will lynch me." Vax nudged Percy's pristine track bag with his scuffed boot.
