Remus looked at Sirius. His eyes were sheen with tears, and he whispered, “I don’t wanna die, Remus.”
Remus wished, he wished more than anything that he could tell him they wouldn’t. But he couldn’t lie, not to Sirius, never to Sirius. He just shut his eyes, not even realising there were tears in his own too, and leaned his forehead against Sirius’, “Me neither.”
Sirius sobbed, and Remus just gripped his arms, because this may be the last time he ever held the love of his life, his Sirius, the very air he breathed. He wanted to say something, but the words just got stuck in his throat. He couldn’t– he couldn’t just die, but he didn’t know what else to do. He needed to say something, but no sound came out of his mouth. Instead, he took Sirius’ jaw in his hand – gently, as always – and kissed him.
