Summary
In the not so distant past, vampires once overwhelmed humanity, ruling them with unforgiving claws and insatiable hunger. For generations, humans were subjugated as livestock, living every day in fear of their terrifying overlords.
Now, a hundred years after a merciful peace treaty and strenuous compromises, both humans and vampires live in a strained, but progressive harmony. Once the dominant species, vampires are now more often subjected to cruel and disheartening prejudice.
Vampires could still tear a human in two if they so wished. But that doesn't stop Yuuichirou Amane from wholeheartedly protecting his precious childhood friend, who's far too gentle and kind to deal with the bullshit they both face in their first year at a new high school.

Summary
Vampires lived in the shadows until the advent of modern technology. Now, unable to hide and facing the threat of human hostility, they’re left with no choice: subjugate, or be subjugated.
Ten years later, Yuu finds himself in much the same state as the rest of humanity--halfway broken, and the fight wrung out of them. At 22, he’s calmer and more cautious, more acutely aware of how fighting back is no longer an option. He has to stay alive for the sake of his baby sister, his mom, for the chance of seeing his best friend he lost so long ago.
He’s not so sure he’ll be able to do that once a rogue vampire kidnaps him.

Summary
Two voices cut through the silence of the night.
They’re far away, but coming closer. And this unnerves him, because he’d rather no one come across him as he is now. But he knows that life isn’t governed by his wishes. And so they may discover him, but it’s just as well that they may never cross paths either.
He can’t move, has no power to affect the outcome. This situation is out of his hands.
Fate is inescapable, he thinks.
The voices draw nearer.

In which fate hinges on many things, including one's own decisions and where Taehyung's might be the most important to be made in all of recent history. Of course, that's oversimplifying things, because it isn't a decision his alone to make. There's a whole web of people that surround him and at its center there are two, only one of whom can stay.
