He’s safe this way. He won’t vomit anything other than a little acid and magic if he stayed empty. If he ate, the chances would be so much higher. The mess would be greater. He’d open his eyes and have to see the food he’d forced down spill out of him and remain afraid of it for weeks. Eventually, the nausea would fade. He just had to be patient.
Alternatively, I project my fears and experiences onto Dust but give him help because being alone with the panic sucks.

Eira makes that near impossible with her knowing eyes and bared fangs, hackles raised as she hissed at him to ‘never forget where we came from, never forget who we lost.’ Dust longed to let go of his past. Eira fought to hold onto it even if she detested her old name and still panicked at the sight of another badger shaped daemon.
