Summary: When Dr. Michael Chen, a mechanical engineer with a penchant for lean manufacturing, wakes up in the freezing body of a newborn Eddard Stark, he knows two things: Winter is coming, and the current technological level of Westeros is woefully insufficient to survive it. Determined to save his family from their canonical fates, Ned replaces honor with infrastructure. He builds glass gardens to feed the North, paper mills to spread knowledge, and a concrete fortress to lock the Neck. But technology cannot solve every problem.
To save the realm, Ned must play the game of thrones—not with whispers, but with audits. He forms an unlikely "Board of Directors" to purge the Crown's debt and turns the Night’s Watch into an industrial war machine.
An ASOIAF SI/Uplift story where Ned Stark is an Engineer, Joffrey Baratheon is terrifyingly competent, and Robert Baratheon finally finds a war worthy of his hammer.

Ned, for his part, suspected the marriage had been Robert’s way of attempting to coax him back to court, knowing that is what the Florents expected. But while his temper had cooled towards Robert, he had not warmed to the idea of a seat on the Small Council, either, and he suspected Selyse’s uncle, Lord Alester, had never forgiven him for it.
Still, for all his icy stubbornness, Ned had pitied Selyse; the adjustment from sunny Brightwater Keep, nestled on the banks of the fertile Honeywine, to the cavernous halls of Winterfell, surrounded by dark pines, would not have been an easy one. And while Selyse had brought a few ladies of her house with her, he’d had no female relations to help ease her entry into life in the North.
So it had come as a sharp surprise when Selyse had cast aside the Seven and proclaimed her intent to worship only the old gods, two years into their marriage.

Had she not been ruined by Petyr, Lysa knew, she would be the one marrying Eddard Stark. Instead she was marrying Jon Arryn, lord of the Eyrie, who, although everyone said he had been strong and handsome in his youth, was now an old man, old enough to be their grandfather. For once, Catelyn was the pitied one, not Lysa, and Lysa did not know what to make of it at all.
(Petyr takes advantage of Catelyn's grief over Brandon's unfaithfulness. In the aftermath, two marriages are drastically changed.)

He gives an odd sort of little half smile, then rasps, “Lyanna. I always kept my promises. She would have been so angry with me… otherwise. I had to help her. It was the only way.”
“What was the only way?” Catelyn feels cold sweat dripping down her back, feels slightly feverish herself. “What do you mean, Ned? Did Lyanna ask you to do something?”
“Keep him away… from Robert,” he whispers. “To protect him.”
(Mortally wounded during the Greyjoy Rebellion, a delirious Ned makes a deathbed confession to Catelyn, leaving her to pick up the pieces of both her life and Jon Snow's.)
