She blinks, more than slightly startled, her struggle ceasing for a moment under the force of her bewilderment. In her defense, she’s still being held by a hand that feels like it could snap her wrist like a twig just by squeezing too hard, so she thinks she has a right to be a little confused.
Also the words make no goddamn sense.
“What?” She asks blankly, giving another testing tug against the hold. No dice. His grip doesn’t go tighter, but neither is he anywhere close to letting go.
“You’re out here doing magic and shit so you can steal from the crowd, right? Do some magic if you want the money.”
She gives him an incredulous look.
“Dude, I just tried to,” she’s suddenly aware that they are in public and that she and Riley will likely need this section of the park in the future, “rob you,” she says in a low hiss. “And now what? You want a fucking show?”
“You want the money? You ain’t stealing it from me. Do a trick and earn it, fair and square.”
(modern verse AU in which joel and ellie meet after she tries to pickpocket him)

Summary
When Jim Hopper first heard of a girl, about twelve years old, running around with an oversized yellow shirt, he didn't think much of it. Of course, he was dealing with Hurricane Joyce, her missing sweet baby boy, and the shit Hawkins always managed to throw at you. Can you blame him?
He never got to meet her, only when he started setting out traps and snacks in the cold winter, even though the said girl was last seen disintegrating an otherworldly monster and disappearing immediately afterwards. So, he didn’t really know what he was doing. Hopper only heard that the girl liked Eggos—after reading a report from a grocery store and an irate manager—so they were stored in a plastic bag in the middle of the woods. Maybe he just had a habit of looking for presumed dead children.

“It’s a lot warmer than before…” Will muttered.
“This is going to take a bit to explain, but…” Jane let out a deep breath. “I’m from the future.”
They all stared at her in pure silence.
“I think I just threw up in my mouth.” Dustin whispered.
OR: Eleven uses the powers of the Upside Down to go back in time and show her friends the dangers up ahead in hopes of saving them from their terrible fates.
OR OR: Author already wrote a 'Characters watch IT' fic and couldn't resist doing one for Stranger Things.
