Scientists and those that study soulmates can't explain when the switch will happen or what triggers it.

Summary
Red Robin was used as a sacrifice by Ra's al Ghul to summon the Ghost King. What Ra's didn't know (or maybe he did) was the summoning was actually a binding soul-marriage for whoever was inside the summoning circle.
The Guys In White crash the warehouse (WHY IS IT ALWAYS A WAREHOUSE!?!?) when they get a lock on Phantom's ecto-signature. In a panic, Phantom, after hastily telling Batman and Co to be wary of them, pulls his now Consort with him back into the Infinite Realms.
Red Robin and Phantom fall in love. The Bats and Birds fall apart.

Ra's al Ghul hired a rogue hedge witch to capture Damian and bring him back to the League. Phantom intercepted the witch's spell. Now, Damian is left with a dragonling in place of his partner.
He's even less thrilled when High Mage John Constantine tell him that only true love's kiss can break the spell and turn the little dragon back into Human/Half-Ghost Danny.

So I do what any good Texan does, and shoot back. Especially when the bad guys are shooting at a kid. A scared kid. Mama bear instincts go hard.

Bruce can’t help but be suspicious. Ed is wearing a suit, something obviously high quality but a little oddly cut. Avant garde, maybe, by some obscure designer. He’s missing a tie, but it’s hard to tell if that’s a style choice or if he’d just lost it somewhere along the way. The whole thing is badly wrinkled, as if he’d left in a hurry and hadn’t had time to pack. It speaks well of him.
