But Dumbledore only smiled faintly, as though Harry had confirmed some private theory. "And what makes you so sure of that, my boy?" he mused. "Love is the greatest battle of all. And Tom... well, we both know how relentless he can be when he wants something."
Harry’s breath hitched, just slightly. Again, that name. Spoken like it was harmless. Like it wasn’t the same name that had been scrubbed from history, discarded like a snake shedding its skin. Tom.
Harry didn’t say it, but it coiled tight in his chest: You have no idea what you’re asking me to consider.
Because Harry still remembered the last words Tom Riddle had ever spoken to him. Sharp as glass, quiet as a promise. A death threat delivered with such finality it had chased him into his sleep for months. And now Dumbledore wanted to drag him back. To suggest there was something left between them worth salvaging... worth naming.
