Techno's eyes lingered on his computer screen for a brief moment before looking at Tommy and sighing. “Could you be any more impatient?” he asked. “You know, you sound absolutely deranged when you act like you've bored yourself to death waiting for news of bizarre, grisly killings.”
“Yeah, well, it's our fucking job, you moron,” Tommy said sarcastically, lightly tapping his foot as the seconds passed without any hints of a new case.
“Ah, our job?” Techno snorted. “Like last hunt when you almost got beheaded by a revenant?”

"Yep, the one and only. And that kid is fine too, all thanks to me." His faux narcissism made the others chuckle, though it did feel good to be acknowledged even if it was in a joking manner, he couldn't manage heartfelt conversations.
Phil patted him on the back. "Firefighter Lewis, huh? Got his first big boy call." Tommy rolled his eyes.

“I can’t do it,” Tommy whined.Technos face hardened and he knelt down to Tommy’s eye level. “The next time you say you can’t do anything, you’re going to run 5 laps around the outside of the house,” he threatened. Tommy looked taken back and Techno continued.
“There is absolutely nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it. Sure it sounds cheesy but it's true. You always put your best foot forward. If you quit because you can’t get it, how can you be sure that your next try wouldn’t have been the one?” he elaborated.
“I guess you’d never know,” Tommy muttered.
“Exactly,” Techno smiled. “So try again and again and again and eventually, you’ll get it.”

Summary
There was something Tommy hid. Not because he didn’t trust them, he really did. It was more of something he had learned to be a bad thing and he was bad at communicating from living basically his whole life in various boarding schools, group homes, and foster cares.
Tommy needed comfort, and there was no one specific type. It varied from moment to moment.
Sometimes he needed a hug and sometimes the thought of touch repulsed him and he just wanted someone's presence. Sometimes he wanted to talk and sometimes he needed silence. Sometimes he wanted to play around and sometimes he wanted to sleep and cuddle.
He just never told his friends and family this.

“Did I make a joke during the stream?” Wilbur asks seriously, and guilt and frustration bubble up in Tommy’s chest.
“Wilbur, I said it’s not your fault.”
“Did I,” Wilbur says again, and Tommy clenches his jaw, and fireworks rattle inside his chest. His eyes sting, and a raging river roars past his ears, so he gives up and throws his hands up.
"Yes. Okay? Yes. Are you happy? Yes, you fucking— you hurt my feelings," he explodes, feeling shame eat away at his insides. “Yes, I was butthurt, and yes, I was jealous. And then I got over it. And I’m fine. So I don’t even know why we’re having this conversation."
or: Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo invite Wilbur over to stream and hang out. The further the night goes on, the further Tommy sinks into his own head. Wilbur is the first to notice; he always is.

Hybrids are disgusting.
That's what Wilbur always says; "Hybrids are despicable," as he closes the door when he gets home from work. "Hybrids don't deserve to live with us," as he makes dinner every night. "Hybrids shouldn't be here," he insists time and time again, until their voices raise and an argument explodes between the two of him. It is a repetitive cycle that is slowly killing Tommy from the inside out.
That's why Tommy is always the first to slam his bedroom door and escape through the window. The best way to get rid of the nasty words that stick to his clothes is to run straight for the Rocks, his favorite meeting place along the beach. It's not Tubbo he catches up with when Wilbur's freaking out, though—
Technoblade is always waiting for him by the seaside. Each time, Tommy arrives out of breath, heat starting to radiate from his skin and flames crawling up his arms. Each time, he feels right at home.
Wilbur would not agree.
