Holly gets taken by Vecna and Mike knows he has bigger problems than his unrequited feelings (or so he thinks) for Will Byers. That doesn't stop him from spilling his guts anyway and avoiding the ensuing conversation by diving headfirst into the mindscape to save his baby sister, and maybe find Max along the way. But Will isn't going to let him get away with a confession that easily. AKA Mike is clocked by more than one person in the midst of the apocalypse and figures he might as well go for broke.

“Guys, Mike’s not like me, he just can’t name characters.” They both give him a pointed look, clearly not believing a word. “I’m serious, every character is a reference to someone we know.”
“Are they now?” Dustin raises an eyebrow at him.
“Yes!” Will is perhaps a bit exasperated, “Stephen and Jay are clearly Steve and Robin, and James is Hopper,” at the blank look they give him, he clarifies, “his first name is Jim.”
This somehow only makes Lucas seem more unimpressed, “okay, but you do see how that’s more suspicious right?”
“What? That Mike can’t come up with names?”
“No,” Lucas shakes his head and clasps Will in the shoulder, “that the first name Mike thought to cannibalize when coming up with a boyfriend for you was his own”.The party grows closer after Will moves in with the Wheelers, picking up D&D again. It all goes well until Mike introduces a new character, Sir. Gabriel Whepler, whose sole purpose seems to be flirting with Will.

I’m also not interested in Chance, for one thing” Mike rolls his eyes, clearly believing Will is an idiot for not just wanting to jump on anything that moves. “for another, I don’t see why I should have to be the one to talk to him, when my best friend is literally the lead in the play this year.”
“You want a wingman?” Mike asks. “Oh, I can be your wingman. You’re not even ready.”

Summary
“I brought you, um-” Mike holds out a thick, navy blue sweatshirt, and Will takes it. “I figured you’d be cold, I mean, it’s freezing out here. Also, your mom is in there, like, shitting herself, and I think it made her feel a tiny bit better that you weren’t gonna catch a sniffle.”
Will laughs, and pulls the sweater over his head. He is freezing, and tucks his chin into the collar to try to absorb as much warmth as possible. A familiar scent washes over him as he frowns down at the Yellowstone National Park graphic.
“This isn’t-”
“Sorry, yeah, it’s mine,” Mike says, and Will turns to him as he makes a sheepish sort of grimace. “I just grabbed the first thing I saw.”
“No, it’s-” Will is simultaneously trying to not come off like a huge creeper for the way his heart pounds, and also tell his heart to stop pounding, because he’s being a huge creeper. “Thank you.”
