This is the bunker dungeon all over again, with death knocking on their door, and this is Cas dying, again, because Dean is too afraid to give him what he wants.OR
Post-finale, after Jack rescues Cas from the Empty and brings him back to Earth as a human, Cas and Dean have yet to talk about his confession. Dean's avoidance of the subject was working perfectly—up until a routine hunt in which a witch curses Cas to die within 24 hours unless his greatest desire is fulfilled. Seems like they have some talking to do, after all.

Coming back from the Empty after a whole year, Castiel discovers that the Bunker is not the home of the Winchesters anymore. Quickly the hunters who are residing connect him to Sam and Sam doesn't hesitate to bring Castiel to Dean, telling him some very unexpected things during their way. Now all Castiel can hope for is that Dean is able to forgive him.

"Sam, I know that you normally refuse human cargo, but I’m not sure I trust anyone else to handle this."
Sam didn’t need to know who his cargo was, he didn’t need to know what the specifics were of their past, or what would happen to them once they were delivered. The less Sam knew the better. It would be a whole lot easier for both of them if he kept his distance, and just did his job. Right?

It should have been like any other job. Collect the cargo, deliver it in one piece, and move on. Sam didn't like to get attached, and he certainly avoided making connections whenever possible. However, this delivery would prove to go a lot different from what he had planned.

Some of the most compelling natural character dynamic development 10/10 come back and read this again. My absolute favorite SamHiggs fic of all time.
