Summary
John, a hockey player with a promising career ahead of him, is partially blinded after an accident during the Olympic gold-medal hockey game. Unable to play professional hockey anymore, he moves back to his hometown and begins to make a life for himself without professional skating. However, he longs for something more than bar hockey leagues can offer him. So when figure skating coach Parker Yang comes to him with an offer—a chance to win an Olympic gold medal as a figure skater, paired with the infamously temperamental but wildly talented Arthur Lester—he accepts. Something is better than nothing, right?
Except that Arthur hates him on sight, and “temperamental” turns out to mean “rude, self-absorbed, and excruciating to work with.”
Neither Arthur nor John is happy with the arrangement, but with no other options and the Olympic season rapidly approaching, they reluctantly begin training. Thin pianist fingers trail along the wooden paneling, pausing at doorways and hallways. A head tilt, a holding of breath, tight in his chest, until it all whooshes out in a quiet huff. Nobody. Nobody was awake at this time. Upstairs and downstairs, you could hear a pin drop. His hearing had always been extraordinary. Doctors had confirmed it was an unusually strong sense of his.
That came in handy, at times like these.
He walks down the hall, fingers trailing silently, only four taps on the wood. A pause, a quick shuffle of feet, repeat- until the cool night air hits your face and the starlit nightingale song lulls you to peace. Usually, Arthur would pause and listen. 'Stop and smell the roses,' if you will.
But the press of a worn, leather-bound book to Arthur's chest meant there would be no stopping tonight.
OR
A fourteen-year old boy, blind since birth, vanishes in the middle of the day. Panic erupts, barely concealed under whispers of secrecy. Head Matron, Marie Pilon, heads to a childhood friend and gets recommended to talk with a consulting detective and his somehow-not-boyfriend-but-still-kinda-boyfriend podcaster.
The game is, of course, afoot.

Arthur has been so busy lately, he's barely had any time to spend with Faroe, so he's brought her out this evening for a treat by way of apology.
At least, he's pretty sure that's why the two of them are here.
He's less sure of other things, like: why Parker was waiting for them. How they got here. Where "here" actually is. Why Parker watches him with a terrible sadness that only deepens whenever Arthur looks at Faroe.
And why Arthur keeps getting the feeling that someone has reached straight into his chest, and torn out half his heart.

Sherlock is now left to pick up the pieces, and move onward, his old life a distant memory. He's settled into his life, or at least pretends to be. Until a peculiar case sends him drudging into the small coastal village of Chideock, and he finds far more than what he bargained for.
