The day had already been monumentally shitty. The worst of the worst days. An absolute steaming-pile-of-crap day. So, really, it was only natural to finish it with a perfect cherry on top — his call from Death-Cast.
He was alone when the unmistakable ringtone began to blare from his phone. He knew what it was immediately. Of course he knew. It wasn’t the first time he’d come face-to-face with it. It was, however, the first time it was intended for him.
He thought about ignoring it; throwing his phone out the window or smashing it with a hammer. It was pointless, though. He knew that. He’d tried the denial route when Lauren received her call, but she was still buried in a cemetery a few towns over.So, what could he do but answer?

So, if you don’t mind…” Ashton gestured vaguely to the door. He sunk back into the chair, knowing there was no way he was making it back to his bed. He was liable to pass out right there the second Luke left.
“Y’know, you’re pretty cranky when you’re tired. You should probably work on— hey, man, no need to use those kinds of hand gestures!”

The second Ashton saw the gun being pulled from the inside of a trench coat, he tried to run and tackle the kid to the ground, but it’d been too late. He was staring down the barrel of an unforgiving assault rifle and bullets were spiraling towards him before he even had the chance to scream for it to just stop. He remembers them tearing though his flesh, such unbelievable agony making a throat-ripping scream tear from his lips. He remembers the blood seeping through his shirt as he fell to the ground and feeling guilty because ‘fuck, this is Calum’s shirt. He’ll kill me for ruining it.’ But, then, the thought set in that Calum couldn’t kill him for it, because he’d already be dead.
