Chapter 2: Author will think about title when she'll stop being idiot

Notes:

...

I WILL EXPLAIN
You won't believe 😭

I actually wanted to write today another chapter or at least try- AND I HAD SECOND CHAPTER READY FOR THESE MONTHS. I JUST NEVER PUBLISHED IT.

And how THAT happened. I have no idea-

But anyway, enjoy. I will update the chapter title when I will remember what the hell did I wrote here- 💀

Chapter Text

Darkness. A black pitch so rounding vision no matter if you close eyes or open. The darkness was always a fear to humans. You never know what was hiding in it, it was mysterious, dangerous. But always after the darkness, was the light.

The darkness suddenly shifted to the light, blinding the vision. There was nothing around. It wasn't even a room, just a white pitch. If given a closer look, there was visible code around. A small line, sometimes appearing.

Android heaven. How ironic…

“ I feel… sorry... about what happened last time… I hope everything will be okay… “

A feminine voice rang through the room. Well, that didn't sound like a God. Not at least how someone would imagine it.

“ Markus was our only hope… and you let him die… What will happen to our people now? “

Markus? What was the revolution’s leader? The robotic Jesus? He died? Well, that didn't sound right… Even if it wasn't affecting him at all, this still felt sad. The voice wasn't happy either, as their voice had a sad undertone.

What will happen with androids? Will everything end up destroyed? That was the most possible outcome. Androids getting removed from industry, becoming another relic of the past.

That doesn't sound fair at all. They just wanted to be free… To be seen… To be alive.

The voice spoke again, startling the listener.

“ I can't believe Connor's gone... Now he will never find what he was looking for “

Connor is…

It shouldn't happen. How did it happen? He should be safe. Well, as safe as someone can be in the middle of revolution. The revolution that leader was killed… The android is loose. Connor was one of them. It should be obvious, as in the moment of failure of revolution, all androids will get destroyed and tossed out. All androids and Connor with them.

After everything ended, the answer was easy to see. Why can't humans live alongside androids? Connor and him were able to communicate, even if sometimes there was some argument (mostly because of him). All of the chaos would be prevented, if everyone else could see the same thing.

Androids are alive.

In the same moment, the light surrounding him disappeared. Almost like someone clicked off the light switch. Was he going to hell, anyway?

“ Hello! Welcome to the DETROIT experience. I’m an android and I’ll be your hostess “ this time a cheerful voice broke the silence. In the middle of the dark appeared a small blue triangle. It pulsed with brightness with each word.

It's getting fucking weird.

“ I’m sorry… I didn’t notice you were here already… “ the triangle started to get closer. With each second, blue particles separated from it, forming a pixel mass. Only a step away, the mass blinked, smiling sheepishly. The shape formed a hologram of a young woman. She has delicate features and eyes filled with kindness. Her floaty hair was tied in a ponytail, which lazily floated behind her “ I would prepare something more welcoming “ she added, straightening her white, tight dress with a few moves of hand.

If it wasn't even more confusing?

“ You surely have many questions, Hank “ he frowned, hearing his own name “ I can't answer any of them. As you apparently can't say anything here, as well.”

The woman smiled kindly, bringing her hands in front of her and clasping them together.

“ I’ve never done this before, but I hope this experience won't cause any major damages “ Hank has no idea what she was talking about. Is this a normal thing in hell? Maybe a personal hell with an android, as the woman had a visible led on her temple “ I felt… Bad for the decisions that were made. This is our story after all.

And a bit of yours too, Hank. That's why you are here. We are the ones writing our story…

But your story was woven into the line of our history. You can change everything, Hank. “

Change? What the fuck is she talking about?

Like if she was sensing the confusion, her eyes softened. The light coming from her silhouette brightened even more, working like a candle in the middle of darkness.

There was something more to it. Changing mistakes? Like in some bad cliffhanger show? As stupid as it sounds, well… Who wouldn't want to have a second chance? If someone fucked their life as much as Hank, they wouldn't think twice. Even if it sounds really like a hangover after a night at a bar- He is already dead, what could happen worse?

The bright android tilted her head, acknowledging his decision “ You are now ready to begin Detroit” she made a brief pause. The light flashes last one time, as her silhouette disappeared from sight.

“ Remember: this is not just a story. This is our future“

Hank felt like he was going to throw up. Or let his intrusive thoughts win and let go of the car wheel. Sadly the world still hates him and the street wasn't even filled with cars. Lieutenant sight tiredly, letting his gaze slide to his right. Connor. Android didn't look like he suspected any of his thoughts, as he stared forward at the road.

How much Hank wants to extent hand and squeeze the other’s shoulder. Just to check if this is really real, not some fucking illusion or any other demonic thing. Because surely getting shot and later opening eyes at the bar is something normal!

“ Your heart rate increased, lieutenant. “

The knuckles on the wheel almost went white, as Hank squeezed it. Isn't it weird? (What in this situation wasn't weird, is a better question) Hank almost felt like he couldn't breathe each time Connor said anything. But he couldn't think about emotions now. He will use the old trick, and throw them out of the window until they won't break into his house.

They didn't help at all for the first five minutes.

Probably hugging an android that you were supposed to see for the first time, and supposed to be an android hater, isn't something you should do. Thankfully, Hank could lie about being too drunk. Not something to be proud of, but works. Not like anyone would believe otherwise.

“ That's nothing, Connor “ wait. He probably should be more of an asshole. But how he can fully fucking hate that goofy moron?? Cyberlife technicians really fucked up.

Connor titled his head, as his led circled to yellow. Thank anything above (probably not God anymore), that Hank still remembers what color meant what.

…Maybe he doesn't remember everything, but yellow doesn't mean dead or serial killer.

The silence grew between them, as cars slowly rode across the street. Case of Ortiz, Hank wouldn't be able to forget that one. The one that started the whole new trail in his life. Still, having a memory of events that haven't happened yet gave him an uneasy feeling. Should he change something? Should he even try to do anything more? Hank never read any sci-fi books, but there's definitely some consequences after fucking with time!

He is too sober to play a hero.

Hank glanced at the android again. Connor, just sat there, alive. Even if he wasn't aware of it, yet. He was there, somewhere under the whole smartass body. His kid.

Maybe this one time, he will at least try to be better.
