It's probably silly to think that Mike would stop all that impact with a trash lid shield but he is THE PALADIN. THIS IS ALIEN DIMENSION. THERE ARE SUPERPOWERS. he can get relevant importance as a treat!
(also need to address that Will using his powers/people being possessed are in tance and don't move, making him a primary target for enemies - especially if he's actively disadvantaging them. but our boy wonder would stand his ground if it meant giving El more time to do her thing and I so wanted to see it...)
