As far as Remus knows, the situation with Shane is totally normal. Sure, it sucks, and he would love to not have to deal with getting beaten and scrutinized as often as he does, but that's just the way things are. There's no other way around it. Which admittedly might create some problems when he gets fed up enough to run away.

Summary
Remus knew he wasn't going to stop until he got his friends back, but that's looking to be a more difficult thing than he planned on, and he's not quite sure how to pull himself out his head when it won't stop focusing on other things.
Janus is sick of the idea that he has to sit around due to being "too recognizable," and badly wants to find something to do, even if it means trying things he hasn't before.
Virgil is trying to figure out how to keep himself and Thomas alive, with some possible help from an old friend of Remus.
At least none of them are alone in being unhappy with their situation.
