Ten years ago, Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr got a divorce. It was a long, nasty, dramatic process. It was eventually settled that Charles would keep the Westchester mansion, Erik the Chicago penthouse, they’d swap the Hamptons summer house every year, and the London townhouse as well as the Italian vacation home would go into a trust for the children. The children would spend the school year with Charles, then would go with Erik during the summer and most holidays.
It was all planned out so meticulously, leaving no t’s uncrossed and no i’s undotted, that Charles and Erik haven’t seen each other even once in the last decade. They never accidentally bumped into each other at a kid’s band concert, or school play, sports game, not even at each high school or college graduation.
Then Alex decides to go and get married, and the family all has to get back together to celebrate his union with Hank McCoy.

Charles holds his wrist out, palm down, first to check the watch that pinches his wrist, just the wrong side of tight. Then, he turns his arm over to check the sleek strip of metal and glass embedded into his forearm.
The usual --:--:--:-- blinks up at him.
Before soulmate timers became all the rage, Charles talked Raven into the implant. He meant to prove that, despite their mutations, they would both find love. But, for twelve years now, both their timers have remained blank. All Charles wants is a countdown. He doesn't need to meet his soulmate soon, he just wants to know they're out there.

Now Erik is tasked with something very dangerous and close to home: find out who is working against the best interest of the United States and why; and out of the five suspects given one happens to be Charles. Erik has to face the fact his husband may not be whom he seems to be, and whether his loyalty lies with Charles and their life or to the country he now calls home.
