This is a Final Destination: Bloodlines “what if” story written in an effort to alleviate my constant depression over that movie. Iris Campbell manages to convince the wealthiest survivors of the Sky View about the danger they all face and the need to devote their resources to saving as many survivors of the Sky View (and future disasters, indirectly) as possible. Each chapter follows a different alternate future scenario (space travel, time travel, new life, divine protection, etc.) following the events of the prologue.

A virus has been obliterating humanity for the past two weeks. Families split up, friends left to believe they wouldn't ever see each other again, and infected people shambling through the deserted streets, attacking anything that breathes in their direction.
Alex doesn't know how he's lasted this long. He hasn't been in any physical danger, but sitting alone with a knife clutched to your chest isn't exactly fun. When every snap of a twig or rustle of leaves makes your heart skip several beats, it's only a matter of time before you go completely insane.
All of that changes when Alex stumbles upon someone that helps restore his hope. Now that they're in this together, he doesn't intend on letting go ever again.

Alex got there just in time to save Tod from death. Now, a year after Flight 180, the remaining survivors have to figure out how to live. Tod has to heal from injuries both mental and physical, and he has to come to terms with the fact that some side-effects are permanent. Carter has to live without Terry, his main reason for even trying before everything went to shit. Alex has to live with the guilt of not being able to save certain people.
Some days, even the simplest of tasks for others— like taking a bath, is the most stressful part of Tod's day. Luckily he has Alex here to help him.
