With newfound rewards from the Hunger Games, the Districts see an increase in volunteers and an alliance forms between the strongest tributes. But what matters to Coriolanus Snow and the other Gamemakers is to give Panem the Capitol's show, a show that Panem would watch.

At seventeen, Luke Seastar is reaped to represent District 4 in the 51st annual Hunger Games. Any normal tribute from 4 would be thrilled - Luke's mother certainly is. But unconforming with the expectations of her Career district, Luke is indifferent. Not angry, nor pleased. Just shocked.
There were no volunteers.
A rare occurrence for the strip of land along Panem's west coast, though not a completely foreign concept. Just an occasional scene of 4’s displeasure when the Games produce a victor not belonging to a Career district. Nobody appreciates a broken string of Career wins - especially the prideful 4.
As Luke ambles through the crowd and stands before Panem, her body is irrefutably stiff. That is, until District 4's escort, Zantra Creed, names a second tribute to stage: a boy by the name of Lineel.

Together, Luke and Lineel navigate the lives of Careers, while simultaneously discovering the trials of tributes and the nation's unexpected allergy towards the culture of District 4.

196 years in, and the Hunger Games have never been more popular, at least in the ratings that matter. With entire dynasties of victors, record breaking performances, and the most unique and exciting arenas ever, the Capitol spends every summer enthralled. Victors stand at the height of celebrity, beholden to the whims of the public. The districts are left to live with the Games however they can.
A career dreams of being a hero and champion for his district. A legacy must survive the consequences for the decisions of victors who came before her. A caretaker cannot allow her dying mother or loving girlfriend to see her give up. A victor is tasked with keeping his first tribute alive while still learning to cope with his own survival.
24 tributes will enter the arena. 24 mentors will guide them. 24 families will watch and hope they come home. In the end, only one can survive.
This is not an NSFW fic, but it does deal with mature themes surrounding the way those in the spotlight are abused.
