Damian Wayne died tonight. Or the Wayne in him did. Murdered by Mr. Wayne himself.
Damian stood at the edge of the high-rise building. In one hand he held the ‘R’ ripped off from his Robin suit. In the other hand, he held the new mask his mother had gifted him. He had asked for a new suit, all black kevlar and a black mask.
Damian let the ‘R’ slip from his fingers, a final goodbye. He slipped his mask on and began his patrol, out of the Bats’ sight. Gotham’s criminals learned of a new terror that night. He never killed, but he made you wish he had. -

He wonders what his father’s mind had been doing in those last moments. His instructors had once taught him that the human brain preserves its most important memories before the final fade—the sharpest flashes of light, the faces, the voices, the warmth.
Damian knows, with terrible certainty, that he wasn’t one of them.
He can picture it all too easily: a flicker of Grayson’s smile, the knit of Drake’s concentrated brow, the old man’s trembling hands, even the sharp snark of Todd. But never him. He doesn’t fit anywhere in those final recollections, doesn’t belong in that gallery of love and legacy.
It shouldn’t matter. It really shouldn’t. He tells himself he’s above it. He’s stronger, colder, trained not to care about what the dead remember. But the words sound hollow even inside his head. And still—still—he wants to ask.
The question curls up in his throat like a child hiding from punishment. Did you think of me? Even once?
Or perhaps, in some gentler world, Damian might have found that the body remembers healing more faithfully than it does pain.

Summary
Damian left the kitchen, turning into the hallway and beginning down it, passing his bathroom and bedroom to stand in front of the master bedroom at the end of the hall. The door was slightly ajar and was pushed all the way open as Damian and Alfred entered.
“Grayson?” Damian called, stepping towards the en-suite bathroom and looking inside.
Also empty.
Damian turned around, marching back to the living room, barely glancing down as Alfred sped past him. He quickly made it to the elevator, staring at the empty hook for Grayson’s key ring.

Join Alex, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne and Jason Todd in a volume full of slice of life moments where our protagonists have some much needed space to deal with the aftermath of the events of the previous 3 volumes. New characters change the rules of the game and beloved old friends get more time in the spotlight, helping our protagonists through webs of emotions.
This volume takes things a but more slowly, focusing on friendship, independence, responsibility, and of course, forgiveness…In chapter 1 spring is arriving in Gotham after a long and quiet winter. Alex and Bruce work together at Park's and Bruce has an offer for Alex she didn't expect. Jason infiltrates the Iceberg Lounge looking for a an elusive figure Zatanna has been trying to track down. After a good run, the tables are flipped and Jason finds himself face to face with Batman for the first time since the events at the end of Volume 3.
The night ends at Alex's dorm room, where she and Jason enjoy each others' company a little too much, leading both to daydream a different future together... sending Jason into a spiral.

Steph and Tim laughed, but Damian still couldn’t rid himself of the pit continuing to form in his stomach. It clawed at him from the inside, daring him to fight it. He ignored it all the same, wishing he were anywhere else, breathing anywhere else.
