The current population is less than 1% of what it was before the Quiet Rapture. Based on the COI’s calculation, fewer than one thousand people are currently alive— spread across six space stations. Genetically, we would reach detrimental inbreeding before we ever could repopulate; but there aren’t even planets to repopulate anymore. Even worse, I’m not sure we will survive long enough to begin repopulation efforts. As the Lead Nutritionist on Filament Station, I know firsthand how our food is running out. Our only hope, is on Eden— and those religious psychopaths would rather let us meet their god, than let us eat.
