With his captors failing to reach his parents for ransom, he's able to escape, only to discover he's no longer in Gotham, and he has no way home.

“I could, but that’s the fine if you don’t come over next weekend.” Jason explains. “Because now B’s going to be all broody this weekend, and if I have to deal with that two weekends in a row, I get to eat your chips.”
“Alright, fine I’ll come over next weekend if you're so…” Dick trails off as he notices something strange on the sidewalk in front of him. “Jay I’ve got to go, I’ll call you back.”
“Dick, Wha-” Dick hangs up before Jason can finish, he feels bad, but this is more pressing. A small figure is trudging through the storm, occasionally stumbling like they’re injured. Far too tiny to be an adult.

Tim was completely still, staring up at Dick with a kind of steely determination that was completely out of place on his young face. “You’re his brother. I thought that if there was anyone who loved him like that, it would be you.”
Dick tried to swallow, but his mouth and throat were completely dry. “It doesn’t matter,” he said hoarsely. “You can love someone to the stars and back, and it doesn’t mean you get to keep them.”
Love alone wasn’t enough, had never been enough, would never be enough. If it were, then Dick wouldn’t have had to be dragged away, kicking and screaming, from every great loss of his life. If it were, then all of Dick’s howling grief would have meant something.

There’s an entrance to the underworld beneath Gotham City. Tim is certain that the only way to stop Batman’s rampage is to give Bruce his son back. Dick just wants a second chance with his brother. It's an old song.

Bruce Wayne became a registered foster parent at the age of twenty when he decided to take in a newly orphaned Dick Grayson. The state of New Jersey and the city of Gotham decided to utilize that fact.
Over the years, Bruce has fostered dozens of children, though they were all kept out of the limelight for their own protection. Some he was able to keep in contact with after they moved on from his home. Others, he wasn't. But the ones he worried about the most were the two that should have been his but weren't, were taken away, instead.
It's been eleven years since Bruce last saw Jazz and Danny Fenton, and while he's grateful to know they're alive, he dearly wished he'd found them sooner.

Tim finds himself vaguely grateful for the solid back of the shelf, he was already gonna be one big bruise, the landing could have been worse.
Sounds of fighting erupt behind him, and he tilts his head back to get a look at the commotion. Batman is there, expertly taking down the goon before they can take advantage of Tim's stunned state. Tim gets a little thrill of excitement, seeing Batman fight, quickly replaced by dread.
Oh he was in trouble.

He’s tempted to turn around, walk away and pretend this never happened. Babs will probably laugh at him if he leaves a hookup after less than five minutes, but he’ll take that over Slade Wilson any day.
But Slade looked just as surprised as him when the door opened. That half a moment, when he recognised Dick, before he could smooth his expression back into blankness - that split-second micro-expression doesn’t lie. Slade didn’t know. He didn’t set this up to find him or catch him or any of the hundred other awful reasons he might have to trick Dick into coming here. He looked surprised too.
So Dick says, cautiously, “Sure,” and steps over the threshold.
Dick agrees to meet with the man he’s been chatting with online. It turns out he and an old enemy share some very interesting vices.
