Stephanie’s legs trembled. Her heart was a trapped bird in her throat, as she whispered out a desperate, “please, just eat me.”
Then, as if registering what she just said she let out an even more desperate scream,
“Please don’t eat me!”
Batman sighed. He actually sighed, and somehow that was so much worse. Like he’d resigned himself to the fact that, yes, she didn’t have a lot of meat on her, but he would have to suck it up because she was what the universe had served up for dinner tonight.
He reached out a gloved hand towards her. It was just one limb. Steady and gentle, like the way you might approach a growling, wounded puppy.
She wondered if Batman ate puppies too.
(Or, A chaotic SI in the DC world with faulty knowledge of canon does her best to make Bruce's life difficult for my sick pleasure! :D )

It wasn’t getting any better out in Gotham, in fact worse. In the distance it looked like a vibrant sand storm had formed, except there was no sand— just dirt, debris, and the occasional lighting. The erratic electricity pulsed through it, illuminated whatever was unfortunate enough to get tangled in there.
Damian swerved through what was left of the roads, using everything he had, though evidently he knew it wasn’t gonna be enough. It was enveloping Gotham in milliseconds, maybe even the whole world— but he sure as hell wasn't gonna be a part of it.

Their banter is cut off by the clatter of silverware up at the table’s head once more. Bruce taps his glass with a spoon all delicate-like, as if he’s at some soirée or fancy function— instead of ‘round the table with his crime-fighting contingent of vigilantes.
“Another year has gone by,” Bruce says, “and even if only for a short while, our city's crime rate has waned. We owe much to this break, allowing us to come together and celebrate the holiday season.”
The atmosphere feels physically warmer, a change that takes Steph by surprise. She doesn’t mind it though, not really. In a way, it’s almost like she belongs.

Summary
Batman has potentially the most famous rogue's galleries in comics- Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, and so many others... but this story isn't about Batman and his villains- this story is about loveable underdog, Stephanie Brown (don't fact check the loveable part, just trust me) and between her Spoiler days, brief stint as Robin, and her (so far) shockingly successful time as Batgirl, she's developed her own reoccurring villains! Such as gravity, an awkward relationship with the Wayne family, and of course- the consequences of her own actions!
How long can our heroine completely ignore her past and any lasting impacts it may have left on her mental health? If you ask her, she'd say forever! (She's an optimist now.)
