Jane knew she hated the rain, but she couldn’t stand being in that godforsaken basement, the uncomforting blinking light accompanying her as her world quite literally fell apart right at her feet.
Feeling the water from the heavy rain pool in her shoes, soaking into her white tennis socks, Jane tries to run faster. However, that ends densely, as she slips right on her backside, feeling the piercing pain through her back. Tears begin to spill more harshly, the saltiness mixing in with the cool rain, as she lays there soaking wet on the hard concrete, wondering what had gone wrong.
A few moments later, she feels a light hover over her face, the brightness heating her face in way. “Holy shit El, is that you?” She hears the familiar voice echo through the hard rain, slowly opening her eyes to see none other than Dustin Henderson.

Some people would have thought their relationship was weird. Six teens, boundaries lowered, bonded over trauma that should never have happened, dating in a weird haphazard way. Trying to get back on their feet.
The best they could do was so survive. And if that meant Max dating Lucas and El and Mike and Dustin, or if it meant Will dating Mike and Lucas and loving El and Max and Dustin like family, then so be it.
None of them knew what 'polyamorous' meant, but that was okay. They didn't need to label whatever it was that they had.
They all loved each other, and that was all that mattered.

“I called your mom, by the way,” he says. “Told her I was picking you up.”
“Are you taking me back?” Dustin asks, nervously. He didn’t really consider that calling Steve to pick him up might involve Steve dropping him off back to Hawkins. He really doesn’t want to be there right now, he feels too much, everything is too much, too big, the future looming over him feels too intimidating.
“Not yet,” Steve says, and Dustin lets out a relieved breath. “I told her we can put you up for the night and then tomorrow we can figure out what to do, yeah?”
Dustin looks at him, the kind slope of his mouth, the worried lines on his forehead. He suddenly feels bad for upending Steve’s life like this. Surely he had plans for the day, maybe work or school, something he had to do that now has been interrupted by needing to save Dustin, again, but from himself rather than from alternate dimension monsters.
“Sorry, Steve.”

Dustin blinked back. He held up his family’s yellow phone receiver in his hand, not entirely sure he heard what he did.
“...Will?”
“I’m serious Dustin. You’ve got to stop this.”
“What? Giving my girlfriend flowers? What’s this even about Will?”
“You just gotta believe me on this one. You can’t give her any more.”
“But El loves flowers!”
“Exactly!”
"..You're losing me Byers!”
There was a heavy sigh from the other end of the line, sounding frustrated that Dustin couldn’t just magically read his friends’ mind. It was the same kind of sigh his mom often made.
“Look, I’m not saying that it’s not nice of you to do that for her – it is, and I know how much she loves them.” Will started, only to grow more adamant “But, Dustin, she cries every time they end up dying!”
Hearing that, Dustin felt his heart take a dip in his chest.
“Wait, she what??”

“It..it just flew out of my hand!!!” Stacy screeched, the punch she'd been sipping on having jumped out of her cup and spraying all down her dress.
Dustin, as well as Lucas and Max, couldn’t believe the sight, at the total improbability...and then Dustin started grinning. Like a slow reveal, he moved his head just to the right – and found El slyly wiping her hand under her nose. Lucas started smiling too, Max, beside him excitedly whispering 'did she do that??' in his ear as he nodded back. With Stacy running off in tears, El casually hid away any evidence and simply turned back to her friends – catching Dustin’s gaze again, and letting loose a small smile.
Dustin’s grin grew.
He really did have the coolest friend in the world.
Then, El did something not-so-like her shy nature. She abruptly stood up from the table and her pale hand grabbed his wrist, smiling back in assurance at his confusion.
“They’re mouthbreathers.” She declared “I’ll dance with you.”
