After five months of being trapped in the Demon Realm with no way home and missing her Mami, Luz is overjoyed when she is able to return to the Human Realm. But after so many adventures with her friends and being with people who love her, she is unprepared to find her grandfather, a man who mother refused to let her meet, to have full custody of her, frightening. Even worse, unlike the Boiling Isles, there is no one to have her back and leaves her to be treated like a prisoner. Unknown to her, her former parental figures, is also beginning to worry when Owlbert returns one too many times with no news about the child who came under their care. She turned around. Three witches and a grimwalker, tired, bruised, and strewn upon the muddy grass, looked to her. What they were looking for, she didn’t know. For guidance, reassurance, a reaction, something. She could manage no words to say. Cold rain filled the space where a heartening speech or a plan of action should’ve been.
They lost.
She lost.
The emperor was defeated, the Day of Unity stopped, and somehow she was still here, thrown and sealed out of the only world she’d ever loved.

Though after the chaos of the DoU and attempts to rebuild afterwards, stress lessens. Less stress and heats returned. The thing is, Hunter has never actually experienced heat before. No worries his girlfriend, Willow, was beyond compassionate and set on making sure Hunter was taken care of.*

Summary
Not wanting to stray too far from each other that first night, the five of them set up camp in the living room, sleeping bags and spare blankets strewn across the threadbare carpet, Flapjack, Clover, Ghost, and Emmiline huddled around their unhatched sibling in a makeshift nest on the couch.
Luz and Amity had been the first to fall into an uneasy sleep, the two of them snuggled up together in the same sleeping bag, arms wrapped tightly around one another, Amity gently cradling the back of Luz's head, carding soothing fingers through her hair as she'd timed her quiet sobs to the crashes of thunder raging on in the storm outside.
Next had been Gus, followed swiftly by Willow, the two of them curled up on either side of Hunter's chest, reaching across the space between his ribs to lock their fingers together, palms pressed right over his heart.
