Ever since the Core Four left the Isle and chose good in Auradon, the Isle of the Lost has been unraveling. Auradon and The Isle were never supposed to interact. Magical Barriers, an ocean, and a magic bridge kept them from ever communicating. On top of that, The Aurodonians feel as though the kids on the isle were lost causes. All they did was be born! The hierarchy was something that always confused Ben. Which is funny, because he is a prince.
