As he falls, he lets himself think about it. He lets himself think that if he wakes up, if things go back again, it means that he does have a quirk. It means he really can take a swan dive off a roof and hope for better luck in his next life. It means that all along, he’s been useless and worthless because he hasn’t died yet.

Summary
When Izuku got expelled, he had gone home with the intention to reset and try again and again until he managed to pass. Before he activated his quirk, he realized one thing. Why should he try to please a school if he was never wanted there in the first place, let alone given the chance to prove his worth to all of the people there?
(or: a better luck next time au in which izuku carves his own path with bloody hands and wide eyes.)
