Race was biting his lip intently, a deep crease in his brow. His bright blue eyes bore into Spot’s, searching him.
It was Christmas Eve, and they were getting ready to go to church. Race had been raised Episcopalian, and he had continued attending church regularly throughout his adult life. Spot, however, had a very strained relationship with it. He was shunned by his childhood church when he came out, and hadn’t set foot in one since.
But it was their first Christmas with Brooklyn, and Spot knew Race desperately wanted to spend it as a family. So, after being reassured that Race’s church was very liberal and welcoming, Spot had agreed to go. He was nervous, but there was no doubt in his mind that he had done the right thing.
