The place takes in Normandy, France, in modest village called Grangeville. y/n is just french girl that arrived in Grangeville when the occupation started, hoping the situation there will be better than it is in her hometown, Paris. She will meet welcoming people of Grangeville, get used to being around them and find solutions with upcoming problems with German occupators.
Side note: Ernets and Colette's grandparents didn't disappear after they try to escape war so it's easier for me to set the plot (that means Ernest and Colette didn't stay at major's and Morteau's homes , but they arrived back to village with thier grandparents!

Lena and Aleksy are opposites in every way. Lena was given all the negative traits such as illnesses. She was much more prone to inguries and sickness than her brother who was always healthy and uninjured. She was always quiet while her twin was loud and outgoing.Bernhard Klein was born to Great War Veteran—Felix Klein—in Rostock, Germany in 1926. Leonie Klein did not want to be associated with the military anymore so she had her arranged marriage husband move to Vilnius, Lithuania before moving to Šiauliai, Lithuania twelve years later. Bernhard was trained militarily and taught to idolize the Fatherland by his father with hopes to make Bernhard a soldier sometime in the future.
This story takes place in 1941, starting just eight days before Operation Barbarossa and just twelve days before Šiauliai was occupied. The story lasts from July 14th, 1941 to May, 1945. It is a multiple POV story.
