Sakusa didn't feel lonely. He liked being alone. And when he felt the need for socialization, he could always turn to his cousin, who always responded with excitement that he'd been the one to initiate contact.
"I have you." He said without hesitation. "You're completely more than enough for me and I really don't need more people in my life."
Komori smiled sadly.
"I'm glad to finally hear from you that you appreciate my presence, but that attitude isn't healthy. You can't have just one person in your life." Motoya said in a rare, serious voice. "When you're dependent on just one person, and they leave, you'll be completely alone."
Komori Motoya, Sakusa Kiyoomi's closest and only friend, has always wanted his cousin to make friends, but Kiyoomi has always refused, saying he doesn't need anyone else in his life. When Komori falls into a coma after a car accident, Sakusa begins to seriously consider his cousin's request and makes him a promise: he will try to make friends. He doesn't expect how deep the bonds will be.

“Show him.. what?” Inunaki murmurs.
“That he belongs here!” Bokuto declares, puffing out his chest. “We’ll make him remember why MSBY’s the best place in the world so he'll never wanna leave!"
Then Bokuto’s gaze zeroes in on the blonde. “You’re in, right?”
Atsumu opens his mouth. Closes it. Opens it again. “In what?”
“The plan!” Bokuto spreads his arms wide.
Atsumu groans, burying his head in his towel as the team scatters around him in excited fragments of chaos.
"Of course he's in." Tomas snorts, jabbing Atsumu's head with his finger. "'Tsumu would die if he saw Kageyama setting to his Omi-Omi ."
"Would not!" Atsumu whips around, horror on this face.
"Would too!"
when rumors spread that sakusa is thinking about leaving msby for the adlers, the team devises a plan to convince him to stay. atsumu miya, torn between pride and something he can’t name, finds himself at the center of it all, trying to convince sakusa that what they’ve become is worth staying for.

Sakusa Kiyoomi died quietly.
That’s what Atsumu Miya had told reporters when he didn’t show up for the semi-final against the Tachibana Red Falcons last year.
A lie, at the time. Something close enough to the truth that it stuck.
Him not showing up anymore wasn’t a surprise to him. Sakusa Kiyoomi, wing spiker for the MSBY Black Jackals, had missed seven practices and two games.
No announcement had been made.
No injury report filed.
The team called it personal leave. The media called it a mystery. Atsumu called it what it felt like.
Abandonment.
Sakusa Kiyoomi had abandoned the team, abandoned volleyball.
Abandoned him.
sakusa kiyoomi disappears without explanation in the middle of his fourth season with the msby black jackals. no injury report. no statement. no goodbye.
a year later, he shows up at atsumu miya's front door and begs to stay with him— but the man that comes back isn’t the same sakusa kiyoomi who left. atsumu is left to confront what it meant to lose him, what it means that he's returned, and whether some things only become clear once you think they’re gone for good.

Sunlight hit the window of Atsumu’s cracked window, sunlight splaying onto the television, making the scene more painful. The MSBY Black Jackals team sat in the cramped space, watching the memories of Atsumu they had collected through the years of being together. It hurt how ethereal Atsumu looked, the sunlight highlighting his honey-brown eyes and golden skin, with the noises of birds and the beach.
Or alternatively,
inspired by the dead wife montage at the start of the movie, but it’s Miya Atsumu being in the hospital due to his suicide attempt, his only memories being stored in an old camera with his haunting beauty.

“I told them it was Osamu! Problem fixed.”
There were a few beats of silence.

in which sakusa kiyoomi lives under the most obnoxious neighbors in the world-- koutarou bokuto and keiji akaashi-- and discovers that no amount of noise complaints or earplugs can save him from the ukuleles, balloon parties, or community scrapbooks. he joins forces with atsumu miya, the couple's upstairs neighbor, and together they plot increasingly desperate acts of sabotage against the villa and against love—until the line between enemies, allies, and something dangerously close to friendship starts to blur.
