Because there was no possible way, that Ink just so happened to fall into his lap like this. So Perfectly.
Nightmare was nothing if not resolute in his choices, even as his headache grew into something far more concerning. As he brought a strange child into his home like a stray cat he found in an alley and decided to keep.
Cross and Horror took the task in stride, growing attached and accepting Ink. Even if worry continued to prod at their souls.
Dust spiraled, ghostly whispers plaguing his mind with anguish.
Killer was adamant on pushing as far as he could, till something broke.
All while the rest of the multiverse continued on, descending into it's ever growing tangle of destructive threads.
Unless those threads could in fact, be undone.

Summary
Nightmare was a curious spirit. He always asked questions, annoying the living daylights out of anybody who cared to listen. However, despite this being an annoyance, it was one of the main reasons Nightmare survived long enough to witness his failure as a Guardian of Negativity have its toll on the Multiverse.
He is failing. The balance is so out of whack that positivity is corrupt unless balanced out with negativity, turning toxic due to its stagnation in the Multiverse. Negativity is positivity's purifier, after all, and without it the positivity goes bad.
And Dream certainly isn't much help, what with him hell-bent on destroying any possibility of negativity naturally occurring.
Nightmare is losing hope, angry at himself for his inaction.
However, he forgets one thing: this is the Multiverse. And anything is possible.
(CURRENTLY UNDERGOING EDITING TO FIX PLOTHOLES AND OTHER THINGS THAT DONT MAKE SENSE, ALSO ATTEMPTING TO MAKE CHAPTER 1 MORE READABLE(and unfortunately still failing LMFAO))

I was 13 years old when I first wrote the original DaLDoM fic and it SHOWS. Now that I've been cursed into hyperfixating on Undertale AU's again, one of the main things I've wanted to do for so long is rewrite this fic, and the time has finally come! Don't expect any of the OC's that showed up in the original fic, the main focus will mainly be on Dream and Nightmare.

Ink was familiar with creating, it’s what he was created to do after all. It was woven into his very magic and essence. Every universe, every variant derived from him in some way, whether it be from being formed by his own hands or splitting off from his own creation into something new. But even so, they were never truly his own. He gave them tangibility, but they gave themselves form, they took his starting point and rushed headlong into the unknown. He loved them all the same, as fleeting as they were.
Ink knew he shouldn’t have done it. He was putting more than just himself and this new universe at stake. But he wanted something that he could call his own, he wanted to be selfish and greedy just this once. He’d seen others have children, have beings tied so closely to themselves that they loved and called their own. He wanted that, he wanted his own child, his own creation.
A choice to be selfish may be just what the multiverse needs though to start repairing broken bonds, to form a happy family once more. Or it might break it all apart once and for all. Only time will tell
