Sam had never really thought about what his wedding would be like. When he was younger, he had assumed, like every other boy his age, he would get married to a pretty southern woman and have two or so kids with her; just like his parents wanted him to. But, he realised soon after that those expectations would be impossible since he didn’t even like women.
So, after he figured that out, he assumed he would just never get married. But then he met Riley and he wanted nothing more than to put a ring on his finger and whisk him away to some beach-side cabin they could spend the rest of their lives in. Then Riley fell out of the sky, and Sam went back to assuming he would never get married.
He certainly didn’t think he would be marrying the (former) world's most dangerous assassin.

Steve pauses after finishing a story about the alien invasion in New York and simply asks, “Do you think he feels the same about you?”
Bucky flexes his hand impulsively, earning an angry look from Steve until he manages to get his fingers back in the places they were before. There’s some bossy nudging involved. Steve’s charcoal fingerprints are left behind. Bucky doesn’t entirely mind them. It makes him feel loved, a little. It makes him feel like someone who actually deserves to be loved.
He doesn’t pretend to not understand Steve’s question.
“I don’t know,” he admits, his voice hoarse.
“I think it’d be nice, if he did.” Steve manages to say the words like they don’t matter, his focus back on his drawing, pencil moving crisply across the paper. “But whatever this thing is that you guys have, I think that’s nice too.”
“Yeah,” Bucky says, glad Steve isn’t looking at him anymore as a ridiculously stupid smile takes over his face. “I think it’s nice, too.”

Sam Wilson, the first black Captain America, has a lot on his plate: he had the military for a reason but now he's back and all of his enemies are weird and overpowered, the shield doesn’t behave as it should, Steve made it look so easy, and also now a lot of people look up to him and he can't disappoint the kids.
Bucky Barnes, ex-assassin and still Winter Soldier, is doing his best to atone for his sins. He wants to help people to clean his ledger and undo some of the damage he had caused. If that includes helping Sam become a successful Cap (and maybe laughing at him in the process) that's just a bonus because any day that involves Nazis not electrocuting his brain is a good day.
Steve Rogers... well, he may be living out his happy ending differently than how it originally looked to the world.
Or 5 times Bucky was having the time of his life saving the day and mocking Sam, and the one time Sam had a great day, too.
