Ava can tell her partner isn't doing well the second they walk into the room, and she tries to slip out of the gala with them as soon as she can so she can get them home and take care of them.

Sara relaxed under her touch in an instant, letting out a long, slow breath as she leaned back a little bit, looking over her shoulder at Ava with a small, tired smile. Ava smiled back softly, massaging her shoulders for a few seconds before gently turning Sara around and pulling her in for a warm hug. Sara went easily, allowing herself to be pulled into Ava’s waiting, open arms. Sliding her own arms up under Ava’s blazer, she curled her fingers lightly into Ava’s button-up. Ava rubbed Sara’s shoulder with one hand, while the other cradled Sara’s head, guiding it to tuck Sara’s face into her chest and smiling at the way Sara breathed her in deeply and hummed.

Sara has one of her nonverbal days and just wants to be showered with love and affection. Ava and Laurel are there to deliver, while Gideon and the rest of the Legends are a good family to her.

When Sara had heard her phone ding ten minutes after she’d sent her last flirty, teasing text, she’d expected it to be another one of Ava’s exasperated complaints about sexting during work hours, or getting her turned on while she was on the clock. She was so sure of it, in fact, that she already had a smirk on her face just thinking about the reaction she’d get out of Ava this time.

A thunderstorm catches her by surprise while she's outside on the balcony, and she gets stuck out there, in the midst of a panic attack, until Ava gets home. She talks Sara down from it, and they proceed to have a soft night together, Ava taking care of Sara in every way she knows how, and every way that Sara asks for— which is to say, an abundance of cuddling, kissing, and soft touches to distract her from the storms raging both outside and in.
