The Capitol representative’s voice cut through, crisp, precise, practiced. The reaping had begun. He pulled the first slip.
“Isabella Saltzman.”
Gasps erupted across the square, then the world seemed to hold its breath. Arthur froze.
Daniel went pale, sitting rigid on the dais, his hand gripping the armrest until his knuckles shone white. Parker, standing beside him, drew in a sharp breath, eyes wide.
Faroe wriggled, whining softly. “Papa? What’s—”
Arthur’s mind became a storm, each thought jagged and frantic. Bella can’t go. She’ll die. She can’t survive this. Faroe needs her. Not her. Not her. He couldn’t process the murmurs, the gasps, the shuffling of feet. Everything became a blur of panic, a single, overwhelming truth.
Before he realized it, before he even considered the mechanics of what he was doing…
“I VOLUNTEER!”

No, he's not. Kayne means jackshit to getting John - his John, not whatever John had been forced to become - back and in his arms. John would never leave him for this. Never.
