Summary
It’s 3 months after the events of At World’s End, and Barbossa and the crew of the Black Pearl have returned to Tortuga for a resupply and a bit of R&R. Some of the crew head into town, and Barbossa decides to sit on the beach, drink some rum, and try to figure out his next move. There he happens to meet Margaret Smyth, a traveling merchant. They strike up a conversation, and this unlikely pair ends up enjoying one another’s company.

In the process, he meets Indians in Colombia and Haiti and clashes with the Spaniards, who have built up their colonial empire there. On Tortuga, he meets the most dangerous buccaneer at the time, Philippe de Monbars, known as the "Strangling Angel", and experiences a naval battle.
1620. Atlan da Gonozal visits Paris and experiences the court of the king, but also the court of miracles of the Parisian underworld. He receives the chain of orders as a knight of St. Michael and has to deal with murder plots and diplomatic entanglements.

James had only been in the Caribbean a few months before he found the Three Ducks, the closest Nassau had to a molly house; he hadn’t been expecting much, but then he met Jack.
Jack hadn’t intended to get involved with a British sailor, much less one who was very probably Navy; but James was an utter delight, both in and out of bed.
They established rules early on: no surnames, no identifiable details. Blissful ignorance and all. But they both knew deep down that the rules were really more like guidelines anyway.
